A Little Bit of Background

You can call me L. I deliberately try not to have any information that makes it obvious who I am or easy to figure it out, so here I am, all vague and stuff. Ha.

I’m a woman in my 20s, living in Lawrence, Kansas. I’m a student at KU. Obviously, judging by the name of my blog I like crocheting and meteorology, so have three guesses what my major is, and the first two don’t count. I’ve had an online journal/blog in some capacity since 2002. None of them have been particularly exciting, though one entry in my previous blog has gotten a lot of mileage.

Due to the effort to maintain anonymity, I do not use last names of people I mention in my posts. Plus, I don’t see the point in using a person’s full name in a blog post. I know their last name, I don’t need to remind myself or anything. The exception to that is people who are already famous that I don’t know personally. Not that I personally know any famous people. I know a guy who was in a commercial, though. But I’ve only met him twice, so he probably doesn't count.

I do tend to ramble. I’m not great at this whole self-bio thing.

Um… I’ve been through a lot, lots of trauma, lots of drama, lots of instability in my life. Things are finally starting to even out and get good. Honestly, I don’t really post a lot about the drama/trauma because I don’t like to dwell on it. I feel like I’m throwing myself a pity party or whoring for attention when I talk about it. And maybe I deserve to feel sorry for myself, but I’m sorry, that’s too much my mother (there’s posts about her crazy behavior peppered throughout), and I try really hard not to be like her.

Since 2012, my life has been in a state of evolution. I’ve morphed from someone who couldn't quite get it together or figure out how to be self-sufficient into someone who manages all the household bills and three bank accounts, keeps my house sufficiently clean (I’m lazy, okay?), and still maintains a near-4.0 every semester. I have a boyfriend I’ve been with for two years as of July 2014 (and he’s going to become my fiancĂ© once we can afford to get a ring because he insists on a stupid ring so it may as well be one I like).

I have no blood or legal family. None. I have a “cousin” a few states away and her parents (and her husband and daughters), but she’s technically no relation to me at all now that my mother and stepfather are getting divorced, because she’s my stepfather’s niece. I built myself my own family, collecting loved ones the way other people find lucky pennies. Accident and happenstance. The nice thing is that I know I am loved and that I love them, and so I don’t really care that none of these people share my blood, because sometimes you’re not born into the family you’re meant to have and you have to go find it for yourself. As such, mentions of “sisters” and the like aren't actually blood sisters, but they are my sisters of the heart and anyone who objects can shut up or go find a different blog to read.

Honestly, you might want to find a different blog to read anyway, I post infrequently and generally it’s not very exciting. I’m not great at the whole being interesting thing. My life revolves around crafty stuff, weather, school, my boyfriend, and just everyday life stuff. There’s nothing special to see, no big dramas if I can help it (and if there is, it isn’t likely I’ll write about it), so my posts are mostly centered on the events of my life and my interactions with those around me. I’m generally pretty boring. Sometimes I’m pretty damn funny, though.

Some of my other interests fall under the geeky/fangirl banner – Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Firefly, Star Trek, Star Wars, the Zelda series, Final Fantasy X, Dungeons and Dragons. I enjoy the geek culture. I don’t have a whole lot to say on the subject for the most part (don’t get me started on the shortsighted people at Fox that cancelled Firefly though), but the interests are there and maybe someday I’ll find a reason to write about something in this arena. I also love music, singing (good luck getting me to do that in front of anyone), disaster movies, and science.

I think that about covers it.
